Pre-Event Checklist
Before each event, we recommend running through the steps below to ensure setup at the venue is smooth and stress-free.
If this is your first time setting up an iPad for use with Simple Booth, start by preparing Your iPad, which covers one-time setup steps for each device.
Update iPadOS and the App
Keeping both your iPad and the app up to date is the best way to avoid unexpected issues.
Confirm the app is fully updated from the App Store
Check iPad Storage
Make sure your iPad has at least 5 GB of free storage available. This gives the app enough space to temporarily store photos if uploads are delayed due to a slow or unstable connection.
Plan Ahead for Power, WiFi, and Environment
Simple Booth draws consistent power because the camera and live preview remain active.
Fully charge the iPad before the event
Close all other apps
Bring an Apple-manufactured charging cable. Third-party cables often can’t keep up with power demand during use.
While the booth can run offline, internet access is required to log in and sync settings.
Recommendations:
Sync settings before you get to the venue
Bring a personal hotspot if possible (as a backup)
Once connected to your chosen network, forget other saved networks so the iPad stays on the intended connection
Overheating can cause iPads to dim or shut down, especially during outdoor events.
To reduce risk:
Keep the iPad below 95°F (Apple’s recommended range)
Set up in the shade on hot days
Use a small fan near the iPad if available
Be prepared to move indoors if overheating begins
Close other running apps
If the iPad gets too hot:
The iPad will show a system warning that the iPad is too hot and needs to be cooled down. Take the following measures until the iPad cools off:
Remove the iPad from its case
Increase airflow
Relocate it out of direct sunlight
Cold temperatures can cause issues with the iPad shutting down or becoming unresponsive until it can warm back up.
To reduce risk:
Keep the iPad indoors until shortly before use
Use an insulated enclosure or case if needed
If the iPad gets too cold:
The battery may drain quickly or stop charging
The screen may become unresponsive
The device will shut down until it warms up
Sync Your Settings
Sync your settings before leaving for the venue, while connected to a reliable WiFi network.
This ensures all changes are saved and helps avoid issues at the event.
Ways to sync:
Refresh from the top of your preset settings
Quit and reopen the app
From your online dashboard's Devices page
Settings may not sync properly if the venue’s internet connection is poor.
Take Test Shots
Once your booth and lighting are fully set up, take test photos to confirm everything looks and behaves as expected.
Backdrop is centered and filling the frame
Adjust booth or background placement
Switch to a wide-view camera angle (not supported on all iPads)
Use the zoom tool
Photos are properly exposed and balanced
Adjust your lighting's brightness or color temperature
If external light sources are interfering, reconsider booth location
Adjust camera exposure or white balance
Photos are sending in a reasonable timeframe
Switch networks if uploads are delayed
Check the Queue if delivery seems slow
Settings are adjusted to event or client needs
Make last-minute setting changes if necessary
Using Test Mode allows you to move between settings and the camera without fully exiting the booth. When you launch into Booth Mode, you’ll be prompted to keep or delete test photos.
Start a Guided Access Session
How to enable and disable Guided Access varies by iPad model. You can add Guided Access to Control Center for faster access.
Confirm Guided Access is enabled in iPad settings (one-time setup)
Start a new Guided Access session just before or after entering Booth Mode
While Guided Access is active, Booth Mode will loop continuously for participants.
Guests can't exit the HALO app.
After the event, disable Guided Access to fully exit the booth.
