# Printer Recommendations

Choosing the right printer depends on your event volume, budget, and desired setup speed. While Simple Booth works with various hardware, printers generally fall into two main categories.

***

### Printer Types

#### **Consumer Printers**

"Consumer” printers are designed for general home or small office photo printing. These models typically come AirPrint-compatible out-of-the-box, making the initial setup very straightforward.

* **Pros**: More affordable upfront cost and very easy to configure.
* **Cons**: Slower printing speeds and higher long-term ink costs.

#### **Dye-Sublimation Printers**

Dye-sublimation (dye-sub) printers are the industry standard for professionals. These are built for high-volume photo booth environments.

* **Pros**: Much faster print speeds, professional-grade durability, and a lower cost-per-print.
* **Cons**: Higher initial investment and a multi-step setup process.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Dye-sub printers require a wireless print server (such as a laptop running helper software or a dedicated hardware bridge) to connect with an iPad and the Simple Booth app.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.simplebooth.com/hardware-and-gear/printing/printer-recommendations.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
