# Duplicating Print Layouts

Most commonly used for printing photo strips side-by-side, duplicating your print layout helps you fill your printer paper efficiently and provides guests with multiple copies of their session to take home. While this is the standard method for creating "strips," you can technically duplicate any layout type to fit your paper size.

When you open a layout in the Layout Designer, you will first see the digital version. If you already have a print layout saved and want to switch to a duplicated format, we recommend deleting the existing print layout and starting fresh using the steps below:

1. Use the **Add Print** button at the top of the Inspector.
2. **Select your initial size**: Choose a print size that is a fraction of your final paper size. For example, if you want to print two side-by-side strips on 4x6 paper, select 2x6 as your initial size.
   * **Note on selection**: We know selecting a "fraction" of your paper size can feel a bit backwards! Our team is working on making this setup more intuitive in the future, but for now, this remains the most reliable way to ensure your dimensions are perfect.
3. **Duplicate the layout**: increase the **Copies** (or duplicates) count in the Inspector. This will place the copies of your template side-by-side when printed out. The final combined print size (e.g., 4x6) will be displayed for your reference.&#x20;
   * **Note on display**: Please note that the duplicate copies will not appear in your print layout preview. We know it would be much more helpful to see all copies on the canvas and plan to introduce this visual preview soon.

### Tips for Formatting Photo Strips <a href="#h_fee9a04956" id="h_fee9a04956"></a>

#### **1x3 Strips (3 photos)**

* **Use Square Crop (1:1)**: Portrait-oriented layouts (2:3, 3:4) are often too "tall" for 1x3 strips, and landscape crops can be too wide. Square photos provide the most balanced look.
* **Logos and Orientation**: If you prefer **Landscape** orientation (3:2, 4:3), adding a logo can help fill the vertical space. If you are using **Portrait** orientation (2:3, 3:4), it is best to avoid a logo so the strip doesn't become excessively long.

#### 1x4 Strips (4 photos) <a href="#h_fee9a04956" id="h_fee9a04956"></a>

* **Orientation**: Use **Landscape** (3:2, 4:3) mode or a **Square** crop (1:1). 1x4 strips are generally incompatible with Portrait orientation because the layout becomes too tall to fit the paper's aspect ratio.
* **Avoid Logos**: Because 1x4 strips are already very long, adding a logo often pushes the layout past the printable boundaries. To keep your branding without adding height, consider adding your graphics to margins or placed strategically on top of the photos.&#x20;

### Cutting Strips <a href="#h_a9a29e38d4" id="h_a9a29e38d4"></a>

Many professional [dye-sublimation printers](/hardware-and-gear/printing/printer-recommendations/printers-for-professionals.md) have a "2x6 cut" setting that will automatically slice your 4x6 sheet into two individual strips. If your printer does not support automatic cutting, you can easily use a manual paper cutter to separate them.

Refer to your printer's manual to see if internal cutting is a supported feature and how to enable it in your print settings.
