# Guest Editable Text

When enabled, the text editing tool lets guests add their names, handle, or a personalized message to their photo before sharing.

***

#### How it Works

Unlike other edit tools, this feature is controlled entirely by your [layout design](/copy-of-halo-app/layout-designer/layout-designer-overview.md) rather than a manual "on" switch in the [Experience Designer](/copy-of-halo-app/experience-designer/experience-designer-overview.md). The tool activates itself the moment the app detects a text layer that has been configured for guest editing.

* **Interaction:** When guests reach the edit screen, they can select the text tool and tap directly on the field to bring up the keyboard.
* **Personalization:** Participants can type their own names, slogans, or messages to make the photo unique.
* **Auto-Scaling:** If a guest's message exceeds the constraints of your predefined text field, the text will automatically shrink to ensure it stays within the set boundaries.

#### Configuration Settings

Since this tool is linked directly to your layout, you must set it up within the [**Layout Designer**](/copy-of-halo-app/layout-designer/layout-designer-overview.md):

1. **Add a** [**Text Layer**](/copy-of-halo-app/layout-designer/adding-layers/text.md)**:** Create a new text layer or select an existing one on your canvas.
2. **Toggle Guest Editing On:** Within that specific layer’s settings in the Inspector, switch the "Guest Editing" toggle to **On**.
3. **Automatic Activation:** The text setting will now automatically enable itself.

{% hint style="info" %}
There are no separate configuration settings in the Edit card. To ensure a smooth experience, customize the **placeholder text** in your layout settings to guide guests (e.g., "Type your name").
